Setting up Connection qTest integration with JIRA Cloud 

Prerequisites for qTest OnDemand + JIRA Cloud


The below is required for you to establish a connection between qTest Cloud and JIRA Cloud.  Please verify that you have access to the below before proceeding. This may involve incorporating your JIRA IT Infrastructure team to help with connection. 


JIRA Access 

  • JIRA Admin Account to set up webhook integration, which includes the below permissions.
    • Users need the JIRA Global Admin account to set up a successful connection with JIRA Cloud.

    • For Defect Integration, users need "Create Issue" permission in the mapped project(s) for mapped JIRA issue type

    • For Requirement Integration, user needs "Browse Projects" permission in the mapped projects. "Browse projects" permission allow them to browse not only projects, but also the issues within those projects.

qTest Access 

qTest for JIRA

  1. Log into your JIRA instance, as an admin.
  2. Click the admin drop-down and choose Add-ons. The Find new add-ons screen loads.
  3. Locate qTest for JIRA - Test Management.
  4. Click Install to download and install your add-on.
  5. You're all setClick Close in the Installed and ready to go dialog.
  6. This is a necessary to establish a connection in qTest to receive more information on your executed Test Run.

Set up Connection from qTest to JIRA

A. Set up Connection using JIRA Username and Password

Go to Integration Settings on your qTest instance

  1. Click on Add ConnectionAdd_Connection_button.png button in the Connection List
  2. Enter required information for the connection in the pop-up screen, including Connection Name, JIRA Server URL, and Global Administrator JIRA Account Credentials

  3. Click on Test Connection button to check the server availability
  4. Click on Save & Configure button after successful connection test.
  5. You can start to configure integration with JIRA issues for defects and requirements.
    • For new Connection, the Configure Connection Page will display after clicking on Save & Configure button.
    • For existing Connection, click Configure icon of that connection to open the Configure Connection Page. 
  6. After configuring Defect and Requirement Integration, click on Save & ActivateSave_and_Activate_button.png  button.
  7. Click on Refresh button of Confirmation Pop-up. Your new configured connection will be activated.

    i.e. The Activation Status is On and your configured connection is checked as Active in Connection List.

  8. After your JIRA Connection Integration is successfully activated, it will be notified with a green status label "in use" next to JIRA 4.4.x, and the Defect menu will be hidden. JIRA will now remain your system of record for all defects and bugs logged through Test Execution.

  9. To edit your configured connection, click on Configure icon of that Connection in Connection List.
  10. You can delete your JIRA Cloud connection in Connection List by clicking on Delete icon in Actions column. 

B. Set up Connection using JIRA OAuth Token

Create qTest Application Link in JIRA:

  1. On your JIRA instance, create a new application link using your qTest instance's URL

  2. After the link has been created, configure it. On Configure dialog, select tab Incoming Authentication and enter the following information: JIRA - Public Key

On qTest side, add a connection to your JIRA instance:

  1. Click Add Connection button
  2. Enter Connection Name and Server URL of your JIRA instance
  3. Click Use JIRA OAuth URL
  4. Click Authorize URL. From the JIRA authorize page, get the verification code
  5. Back to the Add JIRA Connection dialog on qTest, enter the Verification Code
